Visit to a Heavenly Abode

Visit to a Heavenly Abode

I had the pleasure of joining KGM on his visit to meet the Children of Krishnagiri (COK) yesterday. It has been over 3 years since I came to know that KGM has been involved in hand holding and supporting children who have been impacted/infected with HIV in Krishnagiri District.

On our way to COK, we visited the home for HIV children ‘Snehagram’ run by Fr Mathew from the Catholic order of Carmalittes. There we met up with over 50 children (HIV) who were provided sheltered support, coupled with continuing education programs. Fr Mathew opened my eye to the fact that these HIV children were healthy and looking forward to a very happy future, unlike the impression that I had that HIV children were suffering from a terminal illness.

I now understood from interaction with KGM & Fr Mathew, that HIV is today manageable over a normal life span, if the person ensures the following,

  1. Regular medication without a break
  2. Healthy and nutritious food
  3. Basic personal hygiene

Having spent over 2 hours at Snehagram, we left for Krishnagiri to meet up with COK and what a beautiful experience it was.

KGM has set up a very comprehensive out-reach program to manage, monitor and provide continuous support to HIV infected / impacted children in the district of Krishanagiri. There are over 300 children that are being supported by Team COK – Paneer the team lead and ably assisted by Gomathi, Sheela and Nagamma (all three women are HIV infected). Every month each of these 300 children are provided with a Nutrition pack to keep them healthy and be able to manage the illness. Medical care is provided locally at Krishnagiri and critical care is provided by doctors at St John’s hospital Bangalore.

COK under the leadership of KGM also runs a home for the HIV children, which can house 10 of them. There are at present 5 inmates all bubbling with energy and not exhibiting any sign that they are infected with HIV. As soon as they saw KGM whom they fondly called as “APPA” there was so much of laughter and happiness.

We later took 5 children and the COK team out for a sumptuous lunch and shopping for dresses, which KGM had promised them on the occasion of the birth of his granddaughter Tara.

KGM has a wonderful vision for COK and he requires all our support in this divine endeavour which has tasked myself to.

Thanks again KGM for this wonderful trip to COK.

Cheers

Achiah
