Children of Krishnagiri (CoK) is a decade-old HIV/AIDS initiative run by an NGO named ARCOD or Association for Rural Community Development. We work for the welfare of orphan children affected by HIV in Krishnagiri district, Tamil Nadu, a place 100 KM away from Bengaluru. Started in 2009, as a provider of medical and nutritional support to HIV-infected children, CoK today has evolved into a Centre for Excellence (CoK-CFE).
We began with about 175 children under our care. At present, the project takes care of approximately 220 children, giving them the best of nutrition, medical care, and academic exposure. CoK-CFE is a one-of-its-kind HIV/AIDS programme that not only empowers HIV infected children but also adds a human touch to the cause.
They would not accept our children into mainstream schools, so we brought a mainstream school to them!

Most of the children with HIV/AIDS live their lives in isolation, predominantly.
HIV positive people, generally, live a similar life as anyone of us. However, they need to take additional steps to stay healthy and avoid transmitting the virus to others. One thing that sets them apart is that they have to monitor their health regularly and have medication scrupulously.
In this article, we will discuss the crucial challenges that HIV positive people have to face.
Antiretroviral Therapy or ART is treatment for HIV+ people which enables them to lead a healthy and normal life. HIV is no longer a death sentence!
